Louvre highlights: a short visit
Follow the Louvre’s published Masterpieces trail, with 11 ordered stops, room references and preparation for a short museum visit.
A short Louvre visit becomes easier when the route has a clear endpoint. This checklist follows the eleven numbered stops of the museum’s published Masterpieces trail, beginning in the Sully wing after ticket control and ending with the Pyramid view. It preserves that order rather than combining famous works from unrelated galleries.
The museum describes the trail as ninety minutes. Your arrival, security checks, admission queue and any wait near a popular work take additional time. If two hours is your whole available window, allow for those stages and accept that you may need to stop early. Do not book another timed activity immediately after an assumed finishing time.
Room numbers below refer to the museum’s linked trail PDF, checked on 20 October 2026. They help you compare the checklist with signs and the current official map; they are not indoor GPS directions or a guarantee that the works remain accessible. Save the museum’s PDF separately and ask staff about temporary diversions. Mark stops in your own list as you go, keeping your attention on the works rather than completing a score.
Who this list is for
First-time visitors who want a defined selection and can adapt the published route to access needs and available galleries.
Tips
Start at the published beginning
After admission, use the Sully wing and find the Salle des Caryatides, room 348 on level 0. The trail starts here, rather than at the outdoor Pyramid. Follow the current map and staff directions.
Protect time for arrival
Reserve the admission arrangement suitable for your visit through the museum. Keep the confirmation available and check the correct entrance instructions. The ninety-minute trail duration begins inside; it does not promise a ninety-minute total outing.
Recheck rooms for your date
The Louvre publishes a dated schedule of available galleries. Temporary room closures and diversions can change the route. Its current page also reflects the selected day; a Tuesday closure is not evidence that the trail has disappeared permanently.
Use fewer facts and look longer
At each stop, choose one thing to notice: a pose, a composition or a contrast of scale. The questions in the checklist are viewing prompts. You do not need to read a long biography beside every object.
Adapt access before setting the pace
The published trail uses stairs and changes level. Check accessible routes with the museum if needed. Keep the official map for navigation; a map button for an artwork cannot guide you accurately through indoor rooms.

Questions and answers
Is everything guaranteed to be visible?
No. Loans, conservation, room closures and visitor controls can affect a visit. Check the official availability schedule for the travel date and follow staff guidance. Keep a favourite work as an intention rather than a promise.
Is this a different two-hour tour?
No. It is a checklist companion to the museum’s eleven-stop Masterpieces trail. The published duration is ninety minutes inside. We have not timed the route in person or added a guaranteed entry window.
Can I navigate between rooms with GPS?
No. The places record identifies the museum and the work or room, not an exact indoor coordinate. Use the official plan and signs. Wikipedia is optional background reading and does not confirm current display.
